America 250: Exploring the Influence of US First Ladies
Since Martha Washington, first ladies have played an influential role in American culture, politics, fashion, media, social causes, and history. Yet women's history is often left out of textbooks, and the impact of the first lady was not taken seriously until more recent decades. This event during the 250th anniversary year will introduce you to several forgotten first ladies whose legacies deserve to be remembered. This talk is provided by Eudora Times Publisher Teri Finneman, who is a national expert on first ladies and co-editor of the book The Cambridge Companion to US First Ladies.
